What is Pyramid Solitaire

One deck, one pyramid, one rule to learn

Pyramid Solitaire is a single-player game played with one 52-card deck. Twenty-eight cards deal face up into a seven-row pyramid, and you clear it by matching pairs that add up to 13 — Aces low, Jacks worth 11, Queens worth 12, and Kings clearing on their own. Turn the stock when the visible pyramid runs dry, and clear all 28 cards to win.

How to play

How to play Pyramid Solitaire

The whole pyramid deals face up. Clear pairs that add to 13, send Kings home alone, and turn the stock when you need a new option.

  1. 1

    Read the pyramid

Twenty-eight cards deal face up into seven rows — one at the top, seven along the base — so the whole board is visible from the start. The other 24 cards form the face-down stock. A card is playable once the two cards resting on it are both gone; the base row is playable immediately.

  2. 2

Clear pairs that add to 13

Tap any two playable cards whose ranks add up to 13 — Ace counts as 1, number cards count as their face value, Jack is 11, Queen is 12 — and both are removed. A 9 and a 4, a Jack and a 2, a Queen and an Ace all work.

  3. 3

    Send a King home alone

A King is already worth 13, so it clears by itself with a single tap the moment it is playable — no partner required.

  4. 4

    Turn the stock for options

Tap the stock to turn one card face up to the waste; only the top waste card is in play, and it can pair with any playable pyramid card. When the stock runs out, tap it again to turn the waste back over and go again — redeals are unlimited here.

Tips to clear more pyramids

  • Clear a King the instant it becomes playable — leaving it in place blocks whatever sits above it for no benefit.
  • Before turning the stock, scan the whole exposed edge of the pyramid for every legal pair, not just the first one you spot.
  • Favour moves that uncover a new row over moves that only clear cards already sitting at the base.
  • Track which ranks are getting scarce — if both remaining 9s are gone, every exposed 4 is dead weight until a new one turns up.
  • The waste-top card is a free wildcard against the whole exposed pyramid edge — hold the stock turn until you know what you need from it.
  • Use undo to test a pairing choice when two different matches are both available; taking the wrong one first can wall off the other.
  • If a redeal has cycled through the whole stock without freeing a single card, the deal is genuinely stuck — start a new one rather than cycling again.

FAQ

Pyramid Solitaire, answered

Straight answers about the free Pyramid Solitaire card game you can play online in your browser.

What is Pyramid Solitaire?

Pyramid Solitaire is a single-player card game played with one standard 52-card deck. Twenty-eight cards deal face up into a seven-row pyramid, and the rest form a stock. You clear the pyramid by removing pairs of playable cards whose ranks add up to 13, and by removing a King by itself since it already equals 13. Clearing all 28 pyramid cards wins the game.

How do you play Pyramid Solitaire?

Deal 28 cards face up into a pyramid of seven rows and keep the other 24 as a face-down stock. A pyramid card is playable once the two cards resting on it are both removed; the seven-card base row is playable from the start. Tap two playable cards that add up to 13 to clear both, or tap a playable King to clear it alone. Turn the stock to the waste for more options — only the top waste card is playable, and it pairs like any pyramid card. Win by clearing every card from the pyramid.

Is Pyramid Solitaire free to play online?

Yes. pyramidsolitaire.app is completely free and runs entirely in your browser. There is nothing to buy, download, or install, and there are no interruptive video ads, premium tiers, or paywalls. Open the page and a game is already dealt.

Do I need to download an app or create an account?

No. The game is the website — a 100% browser-based build with no app store download and no sign-up. Your stats are saved locally in your browser, so there is no login to manage.

What is the 13 rule in Pyramid Solitaire?

Two playable cards clear together whenever their ranks add up to 13: an Ace (1) with a Queen (12), a 2 with a Jack (11), a 3 with a 10, and so on down to a 6 with a 7. A King is already worth 13 by itself, so it clears alone with a single tap instead of pairing with another card.

How does scoring work?

Clearing a pair is worth 10 points, clearing a lone King is worth 15, and finishing the pyramid adds a 50-point bonus. Score only goes up — there is no move in Pyramid Solitaire that costs points. Time and move count are tracked separately so you can chase a fast clear or a low-move clear.

How many times can I go through the stock?

As many times as you like. Some versions of Pyramid Solitaire cap you at one or three passes through the stock; this build keeps redeals unlimited, so a deal ends only when the stock is empty and truly no legal move remains.

Is every game of Pyramid Solitaire winnable?

No. Some deals cannot be cleared no matter how you play, and you cannot always tell in advance. A deal is genuinely stuck once the stock is empty and no playable card can pair or clear alone. If that happens, deal a new game.

How do I win more games?

Clear a King the moment it becomes playable — it never needs a partner and only blocks the cards above it if you leave it. Look at the whole exposed edge of the pyramid before every stock turn, favour moves that reveal a new row over ones that only clean up the base, and use undo to compare two available pairings before committing to one.

Does the game save my progress?

Your best score, best time, best move count, games played, and win streak are saved locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server and there is no account. Because the save lives on the device, a different phone, a new browser profile, or cleared site data looks like a fresh start. A game in progress is not saved if you close the tab.

Can I play Pyramid Solitaire on mobile?

Yes. The layout is built for touch: tap a playable card, then tap its partner to clear the pair — no dragging required. The full pyramid, stock, and waste fit on one portrait screen, and dealing a new game is instant with no page reload.
