Getting started

What Pyramid Solitaire is, whether it is free, and how to start a game in your browser.

What is Pyramid Solitaire?

Pyramid Solitaire is a single-player card game played with one standard 52-card deck. Twenty-eight cards deal face up into a seven-row pyramid, and the rest form a stock. You clear the pyramid by removing pairs of playable cards whose ranks add up to 13, and by removing a King by itself since it already equals 13. Clearing all 28 pyramid cards wins the game.

Is Pyramid Solitaire free to play online?

Yes. pyramidsolitaire.app is completely free and runs entirely in your browser. There is nothing to buy, download, or install, and there are no interruptive video ads, premium tiers, or paywalls. Open the page and a game is already dealt.

Do I need to download an app or create an account?

No. The game is the website — a 100% browser-based build with no app store download and no sign-up. Your stats are saved locally in your browser, so there is no login to manage.

Where does Pyramid Solitaire come from?

Pyramid-style patience games — clearing a triangular tableau by matching cards to a target total — have circulated in card-game collections for well over a century, alongside other single-deck solitaires like Klondike. The 13-pairing version played today became a staple of digital solitaire collections from the 1990s onward.

Rules and scoring

The deal, the 13-pairing rule, Kings, the stock and redeals, and how points are counted.

How do you play Pyramid Solitaire?

Deal 28 cards face up into a pyramid of seven rows and keep the other 24 as a face-down stock. A pyramid card is playable once the two cards resting on it are both removed; the seven-card base row is playable from the start. Tap two playable cards that add up to 13 to clear both, or tap a playable King to clear it alone. Turn the stock to the waste for more options — only the top waste card is playable, and it pairs like any pyramid card. Win by clearing every card from the pyramid.

What is the 13 rule in Pyramid Solitaire?

Two playable cards clear together whenever their ranks add up to 13: an Ace (1) with a Queen (12), a 2 with a Jack (11), a 3 with a 10, and so on down to a 6 with a 7. A King is already worth 13 by itself, so it clears alone with a single tap instead of pairing with another card.

How does scoring work?

Clearing a pair is worth 10 points, clearing a lone King is worth 15, and finishing the pyramid adds a 50-point bonus. Score only goes up — there is no move in Pyramid Solitaire that costs points. Time and move count are tracked separately so you can chase a fast clear or a low-move clear.

How many times can I go through the stock?

As many times as you like. Some versions of Pyramid Solitaire cap you at one or three passes through the stock; this build keeps redeals unlimited, so a deal ends only when the stock is empty and truly no legal move remains.

What are the controls?

Tap or click a playable card to select it, then tap a second playable card that adds up to 13 to clear both. Tap a playable King once to clear it alone. On the keyboard, Space turns the stock, U undoes, H shows a hint, N deals a new game, and M toggles sound.

Which cards can I actually select?

A pyramid card is playable once the two cards resting on it — directly below and slightly overlapping it — have both been cleared. The base row of seven cards is playable from the first deal. The current top card of the waste is also always playable. Every other card is locked until it is uncovered.

Winning and odds

Whether every game is winnable, typical win rates, and how to give yourself the best chance.

Is every game of Pyramid Solitaire winnable?

No. Some deals cannot be cleared no matter how you play, and you cannot always tell in advance. A deal is genuinely stuck once the stock is empty and no playable card can pair or clear alone. If that happens, deal a new game.

How do I win more games?

Clear a King the moment it becomes playable — it never needs a partner and only blocks the cards above it if you leave it. Look at the whole exposed edge of the pyramid before every stock turn, favour moves that reveal a new row over ones that only clean up the base, and use undo to compare two available pairings before committing to one.

What is the best opening move?

Scan the base row and any already-exposed cards for a King first — it clears free and often opens up the row above it. Next, look for a pairing that uncovers a new row rather than one that only tidies cards you could clear later. Turn the stock only once the exposed pyramid offers nothing.

Why did my win streak reset?

The current streak counts consecutive wins. Dealing a new game before clearing the current pyramid, or getting stuck with no moves left, resets the current streak to zero. Your longest streak is kept as a separate best and is never overwritten downward.

Devices, saving, and accounts

Mobile play, supported browsers, local progress, and why a streak might reset.

Does the game save my progress?

Your best score, best time, best move count, games played, and win streak are saved locally in your browser. Nothing is sent to a server and there is no account. Because the save lives on the device, a different phone, a new browser profile, or cleared site data looks like a fresh start. A game in progress is not saved if you close the tab.

Can I play Pyramid Solitaire on mobile?

Yes. The layout is built for touch: tap a playable card, then tap its partner to clear the pair — no dragging required. The full pyramid, stock, and waste fit on one portrait screen, and dealing a new game is instant with no page reload.

Can I play offline?

The game needs a connection to load the page the first time. After that, some browsers may keep the tab playable without a network, but there is no dedicated offline app or installer.

How do I reset my stats?

Open Stats from the game menu and use Reset progress, then confirm with the second tap. That clears best score, best time, best moves, games played, and streak on this browser. It cannot be undone.

Which browsers are supported?

Any current browser with JavaScript: Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari on desktop, plus their mobile versions. If cards do not respond, update the browser, allow scripts for this site, and reload.
